General English Plus English for Work

This course is practical and focuses on developing communication skills and language needed to work effectively in an English-speaking environment. Practise writing skills for CVs and cover letters, speaking skills for interviews and customer service, and presentation and meeting skills for the workplace. The minimum level for this course is B1+.

What will I learn?

Course content

On this course you will:

  • Receive relevant and interesting classes adapted to each student’s needs
  • Receive individual tutorials with the class teacher every 6 weeks to help you to achieve your learning goals
  • Improve your communication skills through class discussions and activities with other students
  • Develop your grammar and vocabulary
  • Read and discuss texts on a wide range of subjects, including magazines, news articles or stories
  • Practise speaking and listening skills through discussions, role-play and presentation

How will I learn?

Learning outcomes

You will be able to:

  • Improve your language skills in the four key areas of speaking and listening, and reading and writing
  • Customer care, dealing with customers effectively on the phone and face-to-face
  • Effective meeting skills, chairing and participating in meetings and understanding the psychological process of decision making
  • Presentation skills, planning and organising a presentation using PowerPoint, and how to use voice and body language to get a message across effectively

Course options

  • English + Global Competence

    Levels A1-A2: Global Foundation (formerly Skills & Culture 1)

    This afternoon course focuses on building functional language skills for lower-level students. The aim of the course is to equip them with the linguistic tools to navigate global issues, compare different cultures, and begin expressing their own views on a variety of topics related to the world around them.

    Levels B1 and above: Global Competence (formerly Skills & Culture 2)

    This afternoon class is suited to students with a good foundation in English and will focus on more complex global topics. The aim of the course is to build students as ‘global citizens’ by developing discussion and negotiation skills, intercultural understanding, and a greater sense of self-awareness. The course will focus on four different stages:

      • Understanding global issues
      • Developing their own viewpoint
      • Expressing their own thoughts in English with confidence and clarity
      • Listening and responding to the views of others
